Laureate chefs don’t receive stars, like with some other famous competitions, but rather knives. One knife indicates excellence and at least 20% of the vote. Double that and you jump into “World-class” territory. Finally a select list of chefs got 80% of votes, earning them the three-knife bragging right of calling themselves officially “The Best”.
That honour was bestowed among others to Belgian chef Tim Boury for his eponymous restaurant in Roeselare, West Flanders. Many of the Belgians on the list received two knives (that’s world class, as a reminder): chefs Geert De Mangeleer, Karen Torosyan, San Degeimbre, Viki Geunes, and Willem Hiele. You can find their restaurants in Antwerp, Brussels, Liernu and Oudenburg.
Finally, a handful of excellent chefs complete the list of Belgian laureates: Benoit Dewitte of Ouwegem, the Brussels-based Christophe Hardiquest, David Martin who runs La Paix in in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht, staying in the capital with Kobe Desramaults and his restaurant Eliane, passing by Nicolas Decloedt and Caroline Baerten of HumusxHortense, and finally Floris Van Der Veken of Hof Van Cleve in Kruisem.
There’s only one thing left to say: bon appétit!
