Belgium’s athletes achieved an incredible feat at the competition in Japan, managing 461 jumps in two minutes.
The official IJRU (International Jump Rope Union) World Jump Rope Championships were held in Kawasaki, Japan. The event brought together athletes from all over the world to compete in a variety of rope skipping disciplines. A number of Belgian teams shone at the championships, winning a total of 12 medals, including 2 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze.
The country’s greatest achievement was that of the team from Oudenaarde (province of East Flanders) in the Double Dutch speed relay, a discipline that involves performing as many jumps as possible during four 30-second sequences with a different jumper from the same team. Two other team members act as turners, handling two skipping ropes at high speed.
The young Belgians managed a total of 461 jumps, 20 more than previous world record holders Australia, earning themselves the title of world champions in the discipline. This same team also shone in other events, bringing home a total of 7 medals.
A great achievement to be celebrated in a little-known discipline demanding excellent physical and concentration skills!
