At the European competition for technical and technological professions, some young Belgians under 25, called the “Belgian Red Bears”, won 13 medals.

This year, the 9th European vocational education and skills excellence event Euroskills was held in Herning, Denmark.

The “Belgian Red Bears” team was made up of 20 boys and 4 girls from all regions of the country, representing Belgium in 20 trades including cooking, tiling, hairdressing, and various other disciplines such as mechatronics (this engineering discipline incorporates mechanics, electronics, IT and automation to design and manufacture smart products and complex systems).

The Belgians won a total of 13 medals: three silver, two bronze and eight Medallions for Excellence.

Sophie Vergari in Graphic Design Technology, Yente Beck in Welding, and Gilles Schoonbrood in Mechanical Engineering Design (CAD), walked away with a silver medal.

Pablo Dejardin won a bronze medal in the Restaurant service category, as did the duo of Mathéo Berbronne and Louis Lemaître in Landscape gardening.

Eight other young Belgians received a Medallion for Excellence, an award recognising outstanding performances above the international benchmark, with a score of over 700 points out of 800.
